CAW pronounced CORE — a reminder that true change begins from within. When our core is strong, everything we build upon it becomes solid and lasting.
At CAW Mentoring, we help young people discover that strength by using their past as motivation, not a barrier. Through faith, culture, and purpose, we guide them to see that their story is not what holds them back, it’s what shapes their power to lead, grow, and inspire others.
Founded by Feleti and Judith Hema, CAW Mentoring supports young people in Christchurch who face challenges such as trauma, social pressures, and limited opportunities.
Drawing from his personal journey, from his upbringing in Ōtara, overcoming gang involvement in Australia, and navigating substance use, Feleti brings both lived experience and professional expertise to guide youth toward confidence, leadership, and purpose. His story of transformation through faith, culture, and resilience inspires every program offered, showing young people that their past does not define their future.

With a Bachelor in Youth Development, Feleti combines practical skills with deep cultural insight. Together with Judith, he leads programs such as Fala Tangata, grounded in the Circle of Mana framework, which nurtures four essential foundations for youth development:
To belong – knowing who we are and where we come from
To become good at stuff – developing strengths and celebrating growth
To take responsibility – learning to make strong, positive decisions
To act generously – giving back and supporting others
Hailing from the villages of Kolomotu‘a, Tongatapu, and Mataika, Vava‘u, Feleti began his youth work journey in South Auckland in 2016. From the streets of South Auckland to the countryside of Franklin, he has walked alongside young people facing real-life struggles, from those battling drug and alcohol challenges in Central and East Auckland to those finding new direction in the West.
Now based in Ōtautahi (Christchurch), Feleti continues to support the unique journeys of the young people we serve — helping them build strong foundations for a brighter future.
Tongan Proverb: Oua lau e kafo kae lau e lava – Stay positive and count your blessings.
Over 75% of the youth we work with connect to one of these Pacific nations — and each island carries the same message: God is at the centre.

Samoa – Fa‘avae i le Atua Samoa — Samoa is founded on God.
Fiji – Rerevaka na Kalou ka Doka na Tui — Fear God and honour the King.
Cook Islands – Faith and culture walk together.
Niue – Atua, Niue Tukulagi — God, Niue eternally.
Tuvalu – Tuvalu mo te Atua — Tuvalu for the Almighty.

Every motto, every coat of arms, points back to the same truth: to honour our culture is to honour Christ.
That’s how faith shows up in our programs — when we honour our roots, we honour God, and when we live in Christ, we empower our people.
At CAW Mentoring, we are proud of the impact we’ve made in the lives of young people across Christchurch. Some of our key accomplishments include:
