Fala Tangata is a 10-week mentoring program designed to help young males build identity, resilience, leadership, and cultural connection here in Christchurch. Guided by the Circle of Courage framework, the program weaves together four core themes, what we call the Four Weaves:
The Four Weaves
Family – Knowing Your Roots: Understanding where you come from, your family, culture, and identity.
Journey – Reflecting on personal struggles, mental battles, depression, suicide, addiction and recognising how you’ve faced or overcome them.
Influence – Understanding who you surround yourself with, the people and environments that shape your decisions and character.
Purpose – Looking ahead, clarifying goals, values, and the path you want to follow into the future.
Program Structure
10 Weeks, 2-Hour Outdoor Sessions – Each week combines practical activities, reflection, mentoring, and group discussions.
Offsite Experiences – Outdoor walks, cultural visits, and community projects reinforce learning in real-world settings.
Goal Setting & Reflection – Youth set personal goals, reflect on progress, and plan their pathways forward.
Celebration & Transition – The final week celebrates growth, leadership, and achievements through presentations and community recognition.
Outcome: By the end of the program, participants develop stronger self-confidence, a clearer sense of purpose, and skills to positively navigate their future.
CAW Mentoring programs are available to the wider community on a fee-for-service basis.
Each service can be tailored to meet the needs of schools, agencies, or community groups.
